SHAC

About Us

The Santa Rosa ISD established a health committee to comply with Senate Bill 19 sec. 28.004 that mandated the implementation of a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC).  Each school district in the State was required by the Education Code to establish and maintain a district-level school health advisory council.  The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) of the Santa Rosa Independent School District is specifically authorized by the Board of Trustees in District policy BFD(Legal).

The SHAC plays a vital role as an advisory council to the Board of Trustees.  The primary purpose of the SHAC is to assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district’s health education instruction.  As an advisory board, the purpose of the SHAC is to provide guidance, the recommendation of other assistance to the Board of Trustees as is specifically listed in state law and District policy.  The SHAC shall have no power to expend public funds, enter into contracts, or otherwise place obligations or liability upon the District.

Our goal as a SHAC committee is that students acquire the knowledge and skills that will enable them to adopt and maintain health attitudes and behaviors throughout their lives.
