SRISD Guidelines for Exposure and Positive Results

Santa Rosa ISD will continue adjusting quarantine guidelines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updates to its COVID-19 quarantine protocols.

Close Contact through Proximity and Duration of Exposure: Someone who was within 3 feet of an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinically compatible illness) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period (for example, three individual 5-minute exposures for a total of 15 minutes). An infected person can spread SARS-CoV-2 starting from 2 days before they have any symptoms (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days before the positive specimen collection date), until they meet criteria for discontinuing home isolation.

Exceptions:
  • In the K–12 indoor classroom setting, the close contact definition excludes students who were within 3 to 6 feet of an infected student if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time.
  • Student or staff who have had COVID-19 illness within the previous 3 months, have recovered and remain without COVID-19 symptoms (for example, cough, shortness of breath).

STUDENTS ONLY

  • If a student is FULLY vaccinated and does NOT have symptoms, the student does not need to quarantine or test for COVID-19. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 10 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.
  • If a student is FULLY vaccinated and HAS symptoms, they need to quarantine and test for COVID-19. If a PCR* test (3 days after exposure) result is negative, the student may return to school immediately. If rapid antigen test (5 days after exposure) is negative, the student may return on 6th calendar day to school.

UNVACCINATED STUDENTS
  • If a student is NOT vaccinated, the student must quarantine at home. the student may return to school If rapid antigen test (5 days after exposure) is negative, the student may return on 6th calendar day to school with strict mask guidelines.
  • If a student is NOT vaccinated, HAS symptoms, and the student does NOT get tested, the student must quarantine at home for 5 calendar days*. Students ending quarantine must be fever-free. have improved symptoms for 24 hours, or with a medical professional note prior to returning to school.
Sample Calendar

If You, a student, or staff Tests Positive for COVID-19 tell a healthcare provider about the positive test result.  Stay in contact with your child’s school during their illness.  Your child’s school will arrange remote conferencing learning at home for the duration of the self-isolation. If the illness becomes severe, seek medical attention. To avoid spreading the virus to others, follow CDC recommendations.
  • Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately.
  • Stay in a separate room from other household members, if possible.
  • Use a separate bathroom, if possible.
  • Avoid contact with other members of the household and pets.
  • Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils.
  • Wear a mask when around other people if able.

If you have no symptoms, you can be with others after 5 days have passed since you had a positive viral test for COVID-19 with strict mask guidelines up to 10 days.
•    5 days since symptoms first appeared and
•    24 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and
•    Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving*

*Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation

Note that these recommendations do not apply to people with severe COVID-19 or with weakened immune systems (immunocompromised).

As much as possible, stay in a specific room and away from other people and pets in your home or place of residence. If possible, you should use a separate bathroom. If you need to be around other people or animals in or outside of the home or place of residence, wear a mask. Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels, and utensils. Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately.

Tell your close contacts that they may have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. An infected person can spread COVID-19 starting 48 (or 2 days) before the person has any symptoms or tests positive. By letting your close contacts know they may have been exposed to COVID-19, you are helping to protect everyone.
